Stock Shot BSS3 – Bonneville Salt Flats, UT

Wow, I feel like I should move to Utah or at least get to know the Airport Security Guards names. So, I just came back from my 3rd trip this summer from shooting with my shooting partners and iStockphoto members Dan Bachman, and Jacom Stephens. We’ve had so much fun with BSS1 & BSS2, we’ve decided to turn this into a great partnership and shoot as much as we can and create great stock photography.

This trip also included a paying gig. One of Jacom Stephens clients, Franklin Covey, was having their companies’ convention and wanted headshot of their employees. We shot almost 400 headshot over 3 and a half days. We took about 20 pics per person, that’s almost 10k clicks for the 3 of us, and yes, that’s tiring. We started shooting at 6:30am and had a few small breaks, but usually ended around 8pm. On those days we used any free time to go look for props for our upcoming Salt Flats & Military Shoots.

Dan Bachman came thru like a rock star. On his way into Salt Lake City, he did an early morning stop at the Bonneville Salt Flats to check out conditions for our saturday shoot. To his surprise, it was Speed Week at the Flats. So, he decided to stop and check out the festivities. Well, lady luck showed up and allowed Dan to see an old friend. To his surprise, the friend was highly involved with Speed Week and got us all access media passes for thursday (our free day).

So, thursday became a busy day. We got to hang at Speed Week and do some great shooting. We then headed back SLC to have dinner with 2 iStock members, Todd and Renee. I have been diggin the heck out their ports for a long time and it was great to spend some time with them. After dinner we headed to Pictureline to check out their tradeshow.

On friday we finished up Franklin Cover and then went over to the second day of the tradeshow at Pictureline. There we met RichLegg and Nicolesy. We ended up hanging out and having lunch with them, good times! Nicolesy had the new Canon 60d and had a time showing the Canon Reps their new camera, they hadn’t even seen it.

Saturday and Sunday consisted of shooting with BSS. Saturday we focused on sports themes at the salt flats and military on Sunday.

For the whole week we averaged 5 hrs sleep a night, boy was I tired, but very happy with the images that I took.

Can’t wait for the next get together.

Here is our iStockphoto lightbox containing a lot of our photos from our get togethers.
